Keep Things Sanitized
There are few sanitization techniques that work great for hot tubs, and they involve the addition of suitable chemicals at the right concentration to tub water.
- Bromine at 2-4mg/l
- Free active chlorine at 0.3-1.5mg/l
- Free chlorine + cyanuric acid at 1-4mg/l
- Combined chlorine at a max. of 0.5mg/l
- Salt

- Biguanide
Luckily, there are plenty of testing tools that make measuring and balancing your chemical levels a simple process.
To shock your hot tub, you will need to add specific chlorine or non-chlorine-based substance to the tub water. Dichlor shock is a great choice. Shocking effectively takes care of the organic remnants of sanitization and any contaminants that can harbor bacteria.
Do Not Tip the Scales
Has your skin ever felt tight and dry after a soak? Your hot tub water may be too alkaline or acidic. Does your hot tub water have a hard time lathering? It is probably due to hard water.
Find a balance. You can achieve this when the mineral elements combine in the right amounts. Always dip a test strip to confirm pH levels. Your targets should be a pH level of 7.4 -7.6 and an alkalinity of 100 parts per million (ppm) to 150 ppm.
